Our solution to save the rainforest.

The Rainforest Lunchbox is designed to provide nutrients, keep the humidity inside the soil and the shade cloth will protect the plants from sunlight, as they are adapted to growing in the shade of the forest. This makes the dried crust -of what used to be habitable soil- humid, and the artificial biomass that is the Rainforest Lunchbox will make it possible for our plants to grow strong.

Turns the inhabitable into habitable.

As the rainforest is cut down, what is left is a barren plain of dried mud and clay whihtout any source of nutrients, as the rain washes the biomass away. The cracking crust is inhabitable for any plants that belong to the tropical forest (1) . With the Rainforest Foodbox, this is no longer the case.

What does it solve?

An easy and affordable solution to increase the survival rate of restored rainforest. And making it easier for the regrown parts to thrive on it's own, whihtout too much need of maintanace.

Contribute to carbon capture.

Create balance in the ecosystem, to stop natural disasters in the rainforests due to unstable biodiversity, which may save animal species from extinction, as well as preventing spread of infectious viruses.

Create jobs for everyone who is interested in saving the rainforest. As planting the plants inside the Rainforest lunchbox is quite easy, people with developmental disabilities may contribute just as easily as any other person.

In the problem page you can read about how the rainforest contribute on the UN sustainability goals that you can see on the picture.

The Material.

PBAT, PBST and PLA, fully compostable plastic that will degenerate into nutritious biomass, H2O and release the captured CO2, which will be consumed by the trees (2). The plastic will also contain necessary nutritions that will be released over time. The plastic types blend nicely together, and the PLA will ensure longer durability before degeneration , untill the Trees are able to live on their own. The Rainforest Luchbox will simply be eaten by its plant!

Soil inside the Rainforest Lunchbox.

The soil will contain the most fundamental nutrients to the rainforest like nitrogen, phosphorus, and calcium. This we may get from sources like manure or fertilizer. Over time the trees will also receive the necessary amount of nitrogen from symbiosis with different kinds of fungi, and the plants will make their own biomass on the ground. That way we may use the ecosystem to create a sustainable solution.

Durability

PBAT and PBST alone will decompose within two years, but the amount of PLA will ensure durability to 10 years or longer, depending on the tree species that we will use the specific Rainforest Lunchboxes for.

Economic incentives.

The materials will cost approximately 32 USD for each Rainforest Lunchbox (3) , (4) , (5) , and 400 USD each 100 kuadrat meters of shade cloths (6) , (7) , which means we are able to plant in large areas at a cheap price. In total it would be far more expensive trying to replant rainforest without the Rainforest Lunchbox, due to the incredibly decreasing death rate of the plants when using the Rainforest Lunchbox.
